Openmind came from a desire to make change.

After a series of life-changing events back in 2012, Openmind was originally created as a passion project to showcase my creations to the world. Drawing was great therapy for me and became an outlet to express my feelings.

It was sometime in November that I released the first batch of T-shirts; one with a dreamcatcher and another with an owl on… People seemed to like them!

I realised that people tend to wear T-shirts not only as a fashion statement, but also to show their beliefs to the world.

The same insight that brought me to creating art is the same reason why people were buying the clothing.

Once this was realised, it completely broke the wall of design possibilities. I had so many ideas!

If there was a way to print a design over the entire fabric of a T-shirt, it would mean that the whole T-shirt became a walking piece of art.

Through many sleepless nights and a lot of searching, the flower of life T-shirt was born…

…and they became a bit of a hit!

Because of how vibrant the T-shirts were, people couldn’t resist sending us photos from all over the world.

So we made more, and more, and more.

Openmind started to feel like a community. Driven by passion and surrounded by friends, the brand was taken to events, trade stands and festivals which helped develop a loyal following along the way!

Printing on polyester meant there could be infinite possibilities with colour. Each shirt was loud, striking and seriously colourful.

However, Openmind was getting in to an industry where ethics are needed to be changed most. It only felt right to find an alternative.

If there was a way to get the same all-over coverage on fabric whilst remaining ethical, it had to be pursued.

Around 6 months later and after a lot of research, we found an ethical supplier that helped us release our signature Organic Cotton Tees.

Openmind never intended to grow the way it did as a passion project. It was truly humbling to see and an honour to grow alongside it.

I had been doing a tattoo apprenticeship all the way through it’s creation and once becoming a qualified tattooist meant life became very busy, very quick. Being just too much to handle for one person, the decision was made to put Openmind on hold.

With tears of reluctancy, my baby had been put to bed at the end of 2017.

Two years have passed since that fateful day. I had bumped in to an old friend who wanted to do an interview to write an article about tattooing.

We discussed many things in this interview and one of those were covering some of the regrets of closing down the brand.

Elexa, another old friend, had read the article. With a background in branding and a personal drive for ethical living, she reached out proposing an opportunity to put this thing back on the rails.

...And just like that, Openmind was reborn back in to existence.

Since that day we have been striving to bring products that are not only beautiful and functional, but also mirror ethics that we wanted to see in a business.
